Wycombe Arts Centre could be a possible venue. Never been there myself, anyone else know what it's like?
"We have a dozen parking spaces on-site for staff, customers and service users."

Not really enough, if we're all lugging guitars and amps, etc.

As for "when am I ready?"  You'll never be ready.  It works in reverse, you become ready by doing it.  - pmbomb

That venue is good for me and having a drum kit means I won’t need to dismantle mine so I much prefer that.

Teeny bit far for me but have fun all.

I know @mrkb has done a few of these but worth getting a set list up-front.  You never have trouble finding guitarists to play chords and any guitarist can sub on bass usually - but drummers will need to know the songs.

@allen - if you book two rooms and are starting to look at a big outlay, recommend getting all "confirmed" attendees to pay you PPG up-front or similar.  A lot of people flake at the last minute for these things and it leaves you in the position of either being personally out of pocket or people on the day paying way more than they signed up for.

I’ve used Rhoom lots of times for band rehearsals.  It is good value and functional , not posh and polished .
Its 2 1/2 big drawbacks for this event are :
    - there is no social / sitting area at all, just the 4 or so rehearsal rooms
    - there is one toilet for the whole set of industrial units and it is functional at best
    - there is not a shop within walking distance

i don’t think it would work for this event, which is a shame because it’s only 5 mins or so from me

No sorry. Always go to Pirate studios.

Glad this thread is still going.

Did you guys look at Water Rats in Woking?

In one of the old jams organised I believe by the dear departed poopot, we had a lovely time there.

Admittedly, a bit of a trek from High Wycombe round the wrong side of the M25.

Is this going to be primarily a jam, or a gearfest?  For the latter, we possibly only need a big room somewhere - not necessarily a studio.

I'm most keen on a gearfest

I write as a player and a builder/renovator - my wife is an artist and most of my building/renovating is to provide 'canvases' for her. I gig regularly at open mics in the Greater Manchester area and have some less than glowing experience of so-called jam sessions in the area. Most of them tend to be 'house bands', some of which permit players of suitable and similar ability to join them for a song or two. Most don't.

With that explanation I'm very interested to read the story of the jam sessions that have been organised through this forum. Most information seems to be about the 2022 Bristol event and I was struck by the age range of the participants shown in the photograph - I'm in the very upper range myself!

I should also add my vote for the 'playing' event - I exhibit at more than enough guitar fairs to want a gear fest personally but that's just my opinion for the counters.

What I'm most interested in is the planned playlist. Although I play a headless guitar I'm definitely not a shredder and rock and roll , my playing interest tends country, Brazilian, folk, pop and jazz. For some years I played in a 20-piece swing band and can sight-read most chord parts and learn staff or tabbed parts. I am critical of nobody - apart from anything else I've been teaching my grandson for six years - though with my own collection of instruments (that never leave my home) I have no interest in showing off gear brands or claimed values. Equally I'm not keen to travel half the country and stay overnight if the event excludes what I'd like to think is a reasonably catholic taste in music.

Is this the wrong point to approach such an event from?

Ok sorry if I’m stating the obvious here but we need to decide -

    1. What is this event? Gear fest or a jam?
    2. A proposed date.
    3. A suitable venue.
    4. A confirmed list of who is attending and what they are doing/ bringing?
    5. An order to the day.

Would be a shame with all this interest to not get something happening?

    Gear fest and jam?

    2-3 rooms

    https://www.weststarstudio.com/

    23 or 30 Sep

    I'm bringing guitars and amps.

I guess jammers will sort their setlist and the rest of us bring gear.
