NGD - Black Paisley Telecaster

What's Hot

I have been happy with the knowledge that despite the vast number of different colours of Telecaster, what I've seen for sale recently hasn't really been "must have", despite me regularly browsing Reverb etc.

That was going well until Saturday night when I was idly checking Guitar Guitar's pre-owned section.

Today this arrived, and other than some scuffing on the scratchplate it looks like new :)

I will inevitably get a new control plate with angled switch slot and a longer jack socket for angled jacks, and I might swap the scratchplate for a plain black instead of B/W/B* but nevertheless it's very nice :)

*and quite possibly a set of pickups ;)

Very nice but I think the Mascis blue bottle in the background is the winner for me.

That is lovely, I can never decide If I like a paisley finish though, that would sway me

I've got one - a seven guitar stand, but a) it won't fit in that gap and 2) it's full.

    That’s VERY cool!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

    No. They're more black.

It's a Mexican FSR, and as such it only has the paisley on the front - there's a japanese version with it front and back (and the paisley bits are more silver / less smoky) and a Custom Shop version which is lots of money.

The other thing, which I've seen on other Fenders, is that the headstock face and fingerboard is finished in gloss but the back of the neck and headstock is satin.

I don't know if the pickups are anything other than std. Mexican ones, but they sound ok for now.

Crook Custom Guitars are an alternative to a Fender CS paisley if that's your bag.

I was about to suggest the Seymour Duncan Brad Paisley La Brea pickup pair until I saw the MSRP.

If you associate the Paisley and Floral finishes with 1968, there is an argument for Oil City Summer Of Love and Californian single coils.

For Rawk, try the DiMarzio DP384 The Chopper T plus your choice of neck/Rhythm position pickup.

Nice. I had one when they first came out. Brilliant instrument for the money :)

I wouldn't mind trying the Fender CS Nocasters but not yet, as I don't dislike the ones it has particularly.

Having had a bit more of a play with it I have to say I haven't found anything that really needs doing - I swapped the jack for a longer one and I've ordered a plain black scratchplate to see what it looks like, but I could quite happily leave it as it is now.

It's doubtful I'll be acquiring anything else this year, but the Japanese Monaco Yellow ones will definitely be high on my list when funds allow, if only for the lack of yellow in what I have now

I have one of those and replaced the stock pickups with CS nocasters... really love how it sounds. Been my main guitar for years now.

HNGD. That's a fine looking guitar. Black is the only paisley that does it for me and that's a great example.  :-)
