Audition - kind of…

Went to a sort of audition last night . Not a band as such - more a local percussionist trying to bring like-minded people together. Got there. Door hanging off its hinges which wasn’t a great first impression. Anyways, get invited in (surfeit of beer cans and cigarette stubs, scarcity of furniture), and asked to play something which he accompanies with various cajons, bongos, etc. Soon becomes apparent that he has delusions of adequacy, and is almost certainly on the spectrum. At this point his friend turns up with a Strat which he stops playing every few seconds to mess with the pickup heights. He also has to get up from time to time to move things around in the room - presumably he has OCD. Percussionist keeps asking what key songs are in, and telling everyone else that they’re shit. Couldn’t leave quick enough except percussionist keeps starting deep and meaningful (actually shallow and pointless) conversations. Eventually get away and am relieved to find that my car is all there including wheels and catalytic converter. Two hours of my life that I’m never going to get back.

Doesn't it concern you that he's identified you as a like-minded person?

It shocks me the way people are freely encouraged to play percussion instruments, no matter how much damage they cause, sort of the way Americans are with guns.

 From a lad who has been playing Bass for eight years, specifically double bass. Another person also responded who plays Guitar and lap steel. Is it any of you?

I once turned up to someone's house to audition, looked really nice, he had a full practice room in his converted loft. Drummer was late so I jammed with the guitarist and singer and had fun, looking forward to joining a band I don't have to pay to practice.
 The drummer finally turns up and he's absolutely wasted, the atmosphere changes to me wanting to leave ASAP.
I get a message afterwards, sorry about the drummer, he's an alcoholic. Do I want to join if he promises to go to AA?

I’m a multi-percussionist and me and my mate (stunning guitarist, changes pickup height mid-song instead of using the tone control: genius!) invited this guitarist to be part of our new project.  He bailed! Can’t believe it!
