Hey all

Am after a strat with as chunky a neck as possible and a rosewood board. What models should I be looking for?

I play a Custom shop nocaster, so think big, I can handle it.

  • The first issue Jeff Beck signatures have the biggest necks I have ever seen on a strat.

+1 on the original Jeff Beck signature model. Baseball bats.

  • I ended up building one as I found all the current Fender necks too thin.

The Jeff Beck Strats with the HUGE necks are only on the very first initial run during the first year of production and everything else since was toned down to around the SRV neck profile. The latest ones are even slimmer than that.

Custom Shop obviously can make you one, but last time I tried to place an order it was a 12 month turnaround, so I decided just to build my own.

You're better off, taking into account what genuine Fender necks go for, spec'ing one up from Musikraft et al, and spraying it yourself. That's the route I've taken with my in progress parts-a-caster, and the neck is lush. My spec, right size, right width, right everything.

  • The kenny Wayne shep signature has a thick neck (albeit tapering to unite thin at the nut) and is Mexican so less expensive. Not common though. Like others have said, replacing the neck is a great option.

the Eric Johnson's signature also has a big neck (probably due to the radius anyway)

  • If memory serves me correctly, don't the 62 hotrod strats have a good sized neck? Not quite U shaped but certainly chunkier than the normal slim C
