HXFX 4CM

I really like my Line 6 HXFX.

Just the other day, I soldered up some new cables so I can use it 4CM mode.

Doing as suggested on the Line 6 site, I get a bit of hum when plugging in the front of the amp (DSL20) to the HXFX’s send socket.
All cables tested and working beautifully.

Any suggestions?

  • In the global settings is the send output set to instrument level?

Cheers - yeah, tried that.  Still the same.

it hums even when the unit is powered off, but if I take the plug out of the unit’s send socket, the hum stops.

No hum at all when using a 2 cable method straight into the front of the amp.

You’ve definitively got all the cables plugged in correctly? I have a boss multi fx running 4CM through a DSL(40) and there’s no hum, hiss, volume drop etc

Edit: the boss does need to be set to have a send/return block active, depending on how the HXFX virtual routing works you might need to do something similar.

iirc there are some early HXFX that experience noise in 4CM - I don't THINK I'm mis-remembering that. Might be worth checking with @Digital_Igloo

I think I read it on the AMP1 Facebook group
    Red ones are better.

I had this when I used the AMP CTRL output of the HXFX - it went away when I disconnected that. Have you tried?

It was ultimately the reason I ditched it.

You need a ground lift for one or both the cables to the FX loop, or possibly the one to the amp input. You might be able to do it by simply disconnecting the shield in one or both of them, although this can sometimes cause a different amount of noise. An isolating line transformer will stop it properly.

Orchid do both single and dual isolating transformers.

Excellent quality and a must in any complicated earthing setup.

    Cheers fellas.

Tried it again this morning - double checking cables and connections, and it doesn't seem quite so bad.... Might be the positioning of the amp or unit near the tele, or something?
