I've done a wood top, metal top is coming along nicely.... then I ordered a lot of pearl tiles yesterday on a whim.  Can't help but think a pearl top will complete the trio nicely.    That's normally the point I am done with a design and move onto something else.

I gave my compressor a service today, so time to start some spraying soon.

For now I've brushed on sealer coats to these, the metal top is in the middle


That will get levelled off, then it will get it coats of gloss.   I may spray the body a tobacco brown to even out the colour difference.... part of me is tempted to burst it too, we will see.

What will you glue the tiles on with? Mt wife is currently deciding what to use for gluing seashell fragments to a picture frame.

I don't know, I may not even get to that build, if I don't I have 800 small pearl blocks for inlay markers..

I would probably use superglue as I go, followed by an epoxy/mica filler once they were all in place

I've gone a deep tobacco tint on the body. I think that will work well against the metal, and even out the colour difference in body and neck

My Deviser Pearl Top has a darker shell top with an abalone stripe in it.  The filler is a contrasting colour that always makes me think that evostick was used for the top.

I don't do anything quickly.  might be another year before i even contemplate the pearl top again

i went darker on the finish and did a black burst on the back

I've still been playing with ideas for the engraving, but this may be the forerunner for me

Is that a cat skull on it?

Definitely felineish, but not accurately so.  It's a bit more stylised in places.

i went with it.

First step is to paint he guard black and laser engrave through that 


makes me wonder about doing an anodised black engraved version - but not today.

Next it goes into some ferric chloride to etch the exposed metal, then the paint is removed

i did do a back plate as a test, but still need to make a few other parts that may also be engraved

That looks great. I think the inverse, before taking off the black paint looks really cool too, so a black anodised version would be even nicer!

IHush guitars does the engraved black plate sometimes

but personally i find those a bit overly decorative for my tastes
