84, not a bad knock, died in his sleep.

*edit* I'd only heard "This Old Heart Of Mine" in my youth (late 60's - early 70's) but really took notice of "Who's That Lady" and "Summer Breeze" when they introduced the guitar-playing of little brother Ernie.

Also didn't know Hendrix had been in their band in the early days...

One of the best singers IMO
phrasing , timing, tonal character , soul

Was surprised today to find someone who that Lulu’s version of Shout was the original

Summer Breeze is one of my all time favourite songs

RIP Rudolph - so many great recordings will ensure your life continues for ever

You can hear a lot of Hendrix’s style and tone in Ernie’s playing, I presume he must’ve known him when Jimi was with the band? I liked the Summer Breeze era of their career. Harvest for the World is a great song too.

    RIP Rudolph.

Ernie's specific Jimi-isms were in tribute to the great man after his death, to carry on the torch, iirc. But also because Jimi was, in effect, an Isley Brother himself. Ernie joined the band in the early 70s when they had their own label and went from a 3 piece mainly vocal group to a full 6 person ensemble.

Ten years too late and still getting it wrong
