Alas - Carla Bley has died at age 87.  She was one of America's great modern jazz composers.

However she leaves a fine legacy in the form of a large discography, and she certainly had a good run.

I only know her for 'Dinner Music' and that iconic haircut. She was working in Birdland in the 50's - imagine the legends she saw..quite the education. R.I.P.

Yes, me too. Absolutely mind-blowing, the 1st time I ever heard him cut loose in that way.
