I've used one when I've been in a jam and it worked ok and didn't sound bad. I had an orange tiny terror blow up for no real reason (other guitarist not me). I carry one in case something fails that can't be solved by chucking fresh valves at it.

I carry a IK multimedia iRig so I can use my phone straight into the desk if I get REALLY stuck.

My amps are generally kept in good condition and are reliable but I still assume anything can break.

I gig A LOT though so my gear gets a hard time (not uncommon for the amp to be tilting for 5 hours at a time 3-4 nights a week )

It's was up until I sold it about 6 months ago.  Bought a Helix and DXR10 so it wasn't getting used
