That predates the research which focuses that hearing loss is a significant risk factor for dementia. Obviously that's of relevance to a lot of us guitar players.

There aren't any specific studies in musicians to see if the cognitive benefits from playing outweigh any hearing related risks - hopefully that might happen. But treating hearing loss will reduce the risk of dementia compared to bit testing it.

And regardless of that, music therapy is of benefit when you do get dementia
