Search for "Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares" - it brought Bulgarian music to the world in 1975.

That sounds gorgeous, thanks OP.

In recent times I've really got into some the post-metal choral acts like Myrker, Darkher, and Sylvaine - that combine beautiful vocal work with metal trappings. And the use of the dissonance in the OP's video reminded me of that.

I was given a tape of that, (Philip Glass on the other side), about 1986. 

Like Emp, I hadn't heard anything like it before.

I had no idea who these singers were or what they looked like but in my imagination they were beautiful sirens, their voices wrapping me in exotic silks.  This was pre-internet.

At some point I found out they were three fairly hefty, middle-aged Bulgarian women.  No problem there but for me it was a total disconnect between the sound of the voice and the reality of the singers.  (Had that with Rick Astley too, "eh, he's a white dude!  Who'd a thunk?"

Anyway, that is a lovely album which I remember fondly.

Kate Bush used the Trio Bulgarka to great effect on her 'The Red Shoes album'. Jeff Beck on guitar on this one as well.
