DIY Kick drum fx pedal

I’ve got a load of cheap vocal mics lying around and was thinking about mounting the guts of one inside a little wooden stomp box to use at acoustic gigs for looping etc. 
Anyone tried something similar?
Or am I having another senior moment?

The usual way to do this is with piezo transducers. They cost about 50p.

There are quite a few to choose between for inspiration here, some using a mic and others using a piezo.

Yes, I taped a piezo pickup (the round triggers, not a guitar piezo) to a footboard and ran that through a Roland TM-2 trigger module to the PA.
