always remember him as "the moody" one in Wings

(and I wrote that with no pun intended)
just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't
just because you do, doesn't mean you should.

Slightly shocked by this, although I suppose I shouldn't be, they're all getting old now.  RIP.

whenever I hear tracks from that album - particularly the title track,  immediately transports me to a certain time and place.  It was always being played at our local youth club.............

I get that completely. Sat on the back seat of my dads car with him playing the tape. Rothmans smoke drifting over me.

Always felt he was a counterpoint to Paul McCartney's tendency to be a bit wishy-washy on occasions and provided a bit of rock 'n' roll heft into some Wings tracks. Might be wrong. He and Linda and Paul were the 3 long-term members of Wings. Band on The Run a great album but otherwise was not all plain sailing; Red Rose Speedway was pretty bad and Back to the Egg not a huge lot better. The only other album of theirs I have on vinyl is London Town and that's not bad.

Anyway, good musician, and always seemed like a nice man. RIP.

I recall buying a guitar tuition book by Denny Laine in 1979.  It depicted the fretting hand with different brightly coloured fingernails and accompanying chord charts with corresponding coloured dots, stars, and moon shaped icons to show different inversions of the chord.  I can't recall how much I learned from the book, but from what I do remember the fingernail and finger placement colours were quite a good idea for beginners.  It was only in later years that I learned how well regarded he was by fellow musicians and people that had been exposed to his playing a lot more than I had been.
