How would you set up? Playing guitar AND doing the live sound

There are always compromises and a lot depends on how consistent the band is as well as how simple the genre is. We played a sort of country and R&B mix and I rarely mic’d the drums up. As there really isn’t any need the majority of the time.

Yes that's definitely true for the size of venues/genre we play. Just put acoustic guitar, vocals and sax through the PA last time. Although generally the percussionist is sat behind the singer so probably gets picked up by the mic anyway.
