Hi all,

Unfortunately the time has come to sell my vintage player grade Gibson 1956 Les Paul Special. Apologies in advance for a long ad!

is just back from a beautifully done vintage correct TV Yellow refinish by Darren @Danielsguitars He has done a superb job and I can't recommend him enough (not many people you can entrust a Vintage 50's Gibson to!).

It was purchased off vintage Gibson specialist Yuuki McClure aka jumping@shadows here on the forum, back in 2017 by another forum member Pete. I took the special as a part exchange from Pete on a 53 burst conversion shortly after.

Yuuki restored the Special that came to him with a badly done refinish. It was originally done in TV Yellow (see pictures from Yuuki’s instagram), it went back to him to have a finish issue on the neck redone. Not a big fan of TVY I had it over sprayed in black (a bit Neil Young) by Yuuki. As usual there were a lot of progress pictures taken that show the Special stripped back to bare wood so you can see the condition of the old mahogany pre refinish, no breaks repairs etc. The serial number is not original but we decided to keep it when the black refin was done.

Refret has been superbly done by our friends at Feline Guitars and the Special plays perfectly as a result. The neck is the holy grail mid 50s Gibson profile and is awesome, a few fretboard members have played it can attest to that @Danielsguitars being one of them.

Pete kept the specs which was handy as often these things get lost in time. Original P90s, switch, pickguard, poker chip, strap buttons, a full 60s loom with bumblebee caps, period correct knobs and vintage tuners. Non original/period correct parts are back cavity covers, MojoAxe aged compensated bridge, switch tip.

Special will come with a Hiscox hard shell case. Given the value it’s either collection from CR5 or a meet up in London.

Genuinely tough to price these things, but given the prices I’ve seen for other specials with breaks/issues at ATB circa £10k and clean ones up at £16k, I think £8,450 is about right

To make it a bit more obtainable I’d look to take a Gibson R8, R9, CS Tele or SJ200 and £5k cash. Potentially a Martin D28 and cash.

If you have any question ping me a message and I’ll get back to you around work etc.

Cheers

Toby

  • I really want this beautiful refin special, each i look the photos. And my previous comment wasn't a criticism, I think I expressed myself poorly in English (I'm French)...

I would love to be able to find a solution to have this guitar.

I know this ad had been up for a while and you’ve probably had no problem but just wondering if having your address on the photo invoice is wise?

I was looking at this one recently as I've been thinking about chasing a chopper junior or special. But unfortunately really can't afford it at the moment.

    Best of luck
