On Boxing Day, 1966, the Jimi Hendrix Experience was scheduled to play a matinee at London's Uppercut Club. While waiting to go on, Jimi picked up his guitar and composed "Purple Haze." Here, on the 57th anniversary of its creation, is the backstory of this iconic song and its meaning:

  • Looking forward to reading that. Jimi and his music towers over his contemporaries and most that came after. As we become more distant from the 20th century, the brightest stars seem to eclipse the others. People will still be listening to Hendrix in 100 years time, probably much longer. 

    He was such a complete talent - the most inventive songwriter, developed guitarist and great singer with the image to go with it.
