Edit: no longer after a JTM45

Hey guys, I'm looking for recommendations of 5f6 amp heads that are close to original spec. Any specific amp builders I should check out?

Edit: I will probably have to prioritise UK based builders I think, so I can avoid customs tax/import fees etc.

  • I bought my JTM45 reissue head second hand for £700 a couple of years ago.

If you keep an eye out they come up reasonably frequently on eBay/gumtree etc.

Unless you were specifically insisting on a clone to avoid the Marshall brand?

Ceriatones are very good. They've been making those models since 2008 so they shouldn't be too hard to find on the 2nd hand Market?

    @Springywheel ;

take a look at the metro amp type kits

Ive built a couple of JTM 45's and  50 Watt super bass plexi's based on the Metro amp spec kits which are the original circuits and can confirm they sound outstanding. ive had marshalls reissues and a couple of freedman's too all great amps but the kits sound much more open and detailed to my ears.

I also added a NFB switch to one of my JTM 45's so its switchable between Bassman Spec and Marshall

    just installed some NOS mustards

Was looking at this Mojave thing on ebay the other day as it's near me.

Not sure how authentic the design is and no connection with seller etc... just in case of interest.

@ElectricXII  yes it’s a metro amp fx loop, it’s not the best solution if you drive the amp hard but I play with just a bit of hair on the note and drive the amp with pedals and that’s enough to get the dirt I need and keep delays and verb clean enough

Ceriatone are still amazing, I loved my old Bassman head from years ago, absolute unit and sounded amazing, should never have sold it really.
Also I have the Wienbrock ME-5 which is a bassman with a 2x12" so a lot easier to manage, you might be able to pick one up fairly cheap!

@horsehead thanks for the suggestion, I'll be on the lookout for one of those - tempted to splurge new on a ceriatone though if my navigator LP sells, cos I'm too impatient

The ceriatone is still an option, but just wondering if there are any UK based boutiquers that do a good Bassman? The import tax thing worries me.

Edit; think I might be in for Superlead as well. I reckon these could make a great duo.

Rift, Gartone, lazyJ, 633, myself could all build you a really nice bassman clone that sounds great and is nice to look at too.
Depends if you want new, your budget and time scale. No one will be sitting with stock.

Check out Flynn Amps in Glasgow too. I've got one of their Tweed Super clones and it's awesome! https://www.flynnamps.com/

    Thank you!

Appreciate the suggestions - I've made a note of all those names; something tells me I'm gonna want more amps at some stage...
