I too was shocked by the list, but, given that 2023 was my fiftieth year, I do agree it is a symptom of getting old.

I didn't know Cormac McCarthy had died.  Blood Meridian is one of my favourite books.

I don't think the list is any longer than it has been in any other year.  The difference is we all sit up and pay more attention the older we get I'm afraid.

I received two emails within a couple of days of each other informing me that two of my work colleagues passed away over the holiday period.  Sobering to say the least.
