Anybody using Tonerider Vintage P90s?

What's Hot

Hello groovers,
I've bought a pair of Tonerider Vintage P90s for a recently acquired "Chinese" LP copy.
I'd like to change the harness too but I don't want to cock it up by choosing the wrong caps or elements of the apparatus which won't compliment the pickups.
What I'm trying not to do is to make it jangly and "hot" and wild.
I only really play lowish volume too...... as in, not in a band.  Just at home noodling around.
Has anybody got any Tonerider P90s?  What are you using with them?
Any pearls of wisdom, greatly appreciated.
Kind regards to all.

  • I should add, I love the 57\62 pickups in one of my Strats.  Not too hot or in your face.... just big, scooped and sparkly....
Apologies in advance for the vagueness of this post.........

Warn and sparkly are opposite IMO.

Put in 500k pots that are sparkly, then plug it into a warm midrangey amp... voila!

I don’t think warm and sparkly are opposites at all, I think that’s exactly what a good guitar sound is. You don’t want muddy, dull, thin or shrill - the ideal is a balanced sound with warmth (complex lower harmonics) and sparkle (complex upper harmonics), at least to me… that makes the guitar touch- and control-responsive, and allows you to set the final tone with the amp/pedals.

But they’re quite vague terms so your interpretation may be different from mine!

YMMV and all that (for @Funkfingers :) ).

    500k pots
    +1

Full-sized, professional quality, Audio taper, 500k all around. (550k volume pots if the TR P90s use A2 bar magnets.)

This is what I installed in my Höhner L75 with Alegree P90s.

In the interests of clearer clean sounds, you could use a push-pull pot to introduce either a preset bass cut or a treble bypass.
