James May

What's Hot
Hello folks
I am new to your fantastic forum. It's all very interesting to me.

Anyhoo, just watching JM reassembling the strat.

Is he doing it in the correct sequence?
How would you rate his performance?

Best SD

I loved that he highlighted the use of JIS screw and what they are
One of my bugbears is people not treating Phillips, posi-drive , and JIS screws with the right tools

That's what I recall, although May does have a degree in Music from Lancaster University.

I also recall that it was a Tokai Strat.

As in George Tokai from Strat Trek?

I was looking at some cheaper Stanley screwdrivers on Amazon before Xmas but the crosshead ones in the set  were posi & I wanted Phillips as I thought that was the main one , ddnt know about JSI . Did we have any U.K. ones eg  whitworth Rudge like spanners etc

What's wrong with my 30 year old crosshead screwdriver?
It's perfectly capable of rounding every crossheaded screw I find.. =)

Crossheaded was far too technologically advanced for the UK.
UK was all about the single slot!

Back to screws. Before this thread I never realised that cross head screws had different names. Who knew that was a thing. Not me. Apart from Phillips that is.

That explains this then in my go-to tool box. I'd often wondered why they were all different, Just thought it's 'cos screws were all different.......

As an aside, I picked up a box of rusty screw bits at a car boot sale in the summer and am using aluminium foil to clean them up.
