I play one of his tunes, Horn. I think the original was actually in standard but I think it sounds better in DADGAD.

Yup, big fan. But I do find a lot of his stuff challenging to play! Same with John Martyn.

I have dabbled a bit in the past but his tunings can be very specific and I don't really like tuning a guitar that way when I'm usually too lazy to spend the time to learn the song properly.

  • I don’t really know his stuff but the other day in a. Guitar shop someone asked whether I liked him because what I was playing sounded like him - who knew!

anyway the tuning I was using was

    DADGCE

not sure if that’s one he used but I really like it

I would describe his work as “couldn’t eat a whole one”..I don’t like the stuff with orchestras so much but I like Pink Moon. Great playing.

Yes. I remember finding a website with tab for all his songs way back when, and working through some of the ones I liked.
I think my favourite was Fly, which is played in BEBEBE tuning with a capo... somewhere.

Apparently one of Drake's many problems in promoting himself as an artist was that he toured with just one guitar and had to keep re-tuning between songs. Much easier to sustain if you're naturally gregarious and know a few good jokes, less so if you're inclined to introversion and socially awkward.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

I had to do a double take and read your post again as I thought you were talking about a rap star doing a solo acoustic tour!

Tone Control , yes he was great.
Don't know what guitarjack66 is really talking about..
It is just a big shame he had to TAKE HIS OWN LIFE.

what's amazing is that very few of his recordings sound dated at all.

As I understand it, it's never been clear that he did. No autopsy, no suicide note, and an antidepressant known to be dangerous in overdose. It's true that he struggled with severe mental illness for most of his adult life, but I do wonder if people are too quick to call what could easily have been an accidental death a suicide.

I've been listening to him since the 80s, seems he is better known now?

Pink Moon was in an advert for Volkswagen about 20 years ago. He became a bit more mainstream after that.

I have to point out that I'd already discovered him before that, because I'm so cool.

  • I haven't listened to much of Nick Drake but I'm currently listening to a lot of Daniel Bachman and trying to work out his many, alternate tunings
