This one's from the "Frustrated with my overall tone" gem of a thread over at the Gear Page (which basically boils down to complicated multi channel amp / sea of pedals / can't see the wood for the trees / help !!). 

This sage piece of advice leapt out at me..

Just play the guitar you like unplugged, plugged into just the guitar amp. Keep it simple then add one necessary. Let your fingers do the talking.. pretend your friends with the high string, and you hate the low string, the other strings are spectators in the dance. Have fun.

As some who spends most of his time unconsciously soloing using the D G and B strings... yeah.. it hit home...
