Calling all slapback aficionados!

I'm trying to learn more about how to set my delay pedal better and one thing I'd like to understand is the different varieties of slapback. It seems like there are subtle variations for this beautiful sound. For instance, is there only one repeat or do some famous players set their slapbacks for multiple repeats? How did it change over the years from the Sun Studio sounds to Setzer? Stuff like that.
