GarageBand: Recording 2 Tracks at once

Setup is Focusrite 2i2 with two microphones connected with GargeBand on a MacMini. 

How can I get GarageBand to record both tracks at once?

I’ve set Track 1 to Focusrite 1 and track 2 to 2. But I can only record one channel at a time. 

There is an option to use Focusrite 1-2 into a single track but then I can’t see how to separate left and right.

There should be an R or record button in the track header. When clicked it should start flashing, which indicates it is armed. Do this for for both, and when you click the main Record button it should record both.
