Yup John McLaughlin is the guitarist, the rest of the band are Indian musicians. It was his project after the first version of Mahavishnu Orchestra broke up.

It's the "very simply" that elevates that, I think. The perfect title for half an hour of glorious Indian-inflected wibbling.

Me too. It was actually a bit mind blowing at first….finding this guy who’d played raging frenzied electric guitar suddenly sitting down playing a weird double strung acoustic with a bunch of Indian musicians. I mean…. whaaaat? Although I was a bit disappointed at first with the direction he’d taken, I grew to love it. I still prefer his electric stuff, but Shakti are great.

Thanks man I knew I’d heard it in relation to him. I used to have that MO record with the band all in a flame or lotus
