Hi - I wondered if anyone could help me please.

I recently purchased a really good classical guitar - a Raimundo 155 - made by their elite luthiersi in Valencia (so not their cheaper outsourced factory models).

But I have decided that I do not really  get on well with classical guitars ie  just don’t want to spend a lot of time on it, certainly not the required 10,000 hours,

It seemed like a bargain at the time because apparently they sell for £3,000, but what I paid for it at auction was’nt exactly chomp change for me . However the tech who set it up confirmed it is in very good condition and was quite impressed by the price I got it for.

I know it is a very specialised field, but I wondered if anyone knew the best place to reach professional classical musicians?

You could try selling on the Delcamp forum, which is specifically for classical guitar.

I've previously bought second hand from Maestoso Music in Brighton, and found them good to deal with, and pretty knowledgeable. I've never sold anything to them, but they certainly do buy and sell second hand.

No harm in putting it in the Classifieds here either, there are a few classical players.

It's free to list here...you might just have to wait a while ;)

Or there's somewhere like Delcamp (I think you might have to jump through some hoops to be considered legit enough to put up a 'for sale' ad)...here's a thread about Raimundos: https://www.classicalguitardelcamp.com/viewtopic.php?t=55370

Maybe have a sniff around and see if you have a local classical guitar society?

Just a word of caution for pitching your ad: I'm not sure what a pro level classical guitar really is...I'd think £5k was cheap for a one-person luthier guitar these days...and I don't think you'd ever find a concert-level player using a Raimundo (although happy to be proven wrong).

That's a nice tidy idea actually. If that's Paul Gregory, he's a well known chap and a great player too.

It’s a tricky one, because it is too good/expensive to be a student level instrument. But probably not quite good enough for the  very top notch professional Maestro guitarists.

I guess it might appeal to a struggling professional starting out or a well heeled amateur.

I may try it on this forum, but thanks for the advice on more niche avenues.

I think you're in the zone there :+1:

I sold a higher-end 'student level' Burguet on here a few years back...iirc, it did sit for a while; waiting for the right person to come along...but, if you've got the patience, it's certainly worth a punt if you can get some good detail/pics together.

Yes @digitalkettle it was Paul Gregory who I bought from. He was helpful, easy to talk to on the phone and so on.

Probably a long shot but the classical guitar centre in Birmingham, they stock Raimundo so they might be interested. Only five minutes drive from GuitarGuitar so you could go spend the cash on something else almost immediately.
Tipton is a small fishing village in the borough of Sandwell.

I sold a top end Antonio Marin Montero to Paul Gregory at Maestoso Music in Brighton 2y ago. He was lovely to deal with and gave me a good price. Email him. He’ll tell you if he’s not interested.

Quite a few of the other UK dealers have packed it in or retired in the last few years.

(Bad experience with London Guitar Studio on Duke St, London with the Marin. Did not feel they were straightforward to deal with. Individual experience on only one occasion though.)

If it’s the one in Bearwood, I bought a Ramirez 125anos from them about 6-7y ago and they were good. They knocked a bit off the price because it was not the latest model. But you are selling @Smellyfingers and I have not sold there.

I posted before knowing he was in London so even less likely. They don't say Instruments Wanted but they do part exchange and sell some me second hand so it felt worth a punt if a private sale didn't seem likely.
And it's a lovely trip to Bearwood which has, err, hang on, give me a minute...a bus station.

ask London guitar studio if they'll sell it on commission, or Mak's guitars maybe

  • Tbh - this is beginning to grow on me, the sustain has a type of resonance and depth which even good steel strings seem to lack lack. I also like the unusually wide neck.

I am not sure but I think classical guitars are particularly sensitive to atmospheric conditions. When I first got it back to my flat it sounded a bit weird and I had to keep retuning it, also I guess it had’nt been played in years.

But now after a few days of acclimatisation it sounds great, maybe a bit like getting a new kitten or parrot.
