Shameless Dad-pride (Rugby related)

Heard today that my lad has been invited in to the Bath Rugby pre-Academy training group.

He’s already in the DPP (Developing Players Program) for his age group (15) which is about 200 players scouted and invited from across the region at multiple training sites. 

Pre-Academy is about 50 of those who get additional sessions having been identified as those with the most long term potential. 

To say I’m excited and proud is an understatement. For a lad with ADHD it’s an even bigger achievement. Makes the cold nights on the sidelines that little bit more endurable!

He plays Fullback for his club, and Fullback, Wing and occasionally centre at the Bath stuff. 

How far through did your son go?

Did he want to / get the opportunity to play full time after that?

Of his group, 6 got contracts at Worcester which was unheard of. He went off to Loughborough Uni in 2020 but there wasn’t any rugby due to covid. He had some amazing opportunities and experiences, and to my mind really benefited from that as he grew up. He didnt quite have the drive to go all the way but I think it just wasn’t quite for him. I asked him about it over Christmas and he really misses playing the matches with his mates but not the training.

i really hope you get as many proud dad moments as I did! Precious memories to savour!

Today he played for Bath U15 Academy

The Bath squad went unbeaten against Harlequins, Gloucester and Bristol Bears. He scored in the first game, then had to miss the rest after a head injury. The highs and lows! 

Next step: try to get selected for a full match against London Irish at the end of the month.

Great stuff, but tell him to give it a rest with the head injury bit.
