Anyone incorporate a laptop into their rig?

I'm going to try out Midi Guitar 2 this morning, and was thinking that a loop switcher at the start of the chain into the audio interface and back would mean a one-click switch between bass and synth (or guitar rig or whatever). Is there a smarter way of doing it?

I'm thinking of live use, not recording.
