Such things are mostly vanity projects. Why create a humanoid robot when there's 8.5 billion real ones walking about?
These things are only for people who don't really want people.

Laundry. Can’t be easily automated, and is a a ton of admin with two kids under 3 that I would pay anything asked to eliminate.

That's a valid use case, though. There are lots of circumstances where a human-shaped-object is ideal for dealing with a problem, but the job is too dangerous for an actual human to be used.

Of course, that would also require that the human-shaped-object doesn't cost more than the life insurance payout of an actual human...

I’d just redesign the washing machine…  drop stuff in top, custom robotics would sort, wash, dry, iron and fold.  Ai and a picker would quickly learn which are individual garments,

I imagine a future world where AI and humanoids are firmly entrenched in our daily lives as "co-pilots" (this is after all how they're marketing these things), and it's all subscription-based.  Better co-pilots cost more per year whereas basic packages are cheaper, but are "dumber" because certain features are disabled.

If this ever happens, the rich get access to more knowledge, more data, faster automation, wider networks while the poor get left behind even more.  I just hope it doesn't go down that road.  But can never underestimate greed.     

And with electronic tech being the hot topic, advances in biotech (genetics) are completely flying under the radar.  Humanoids will be a moot point when labs start artificially creating full grown humans with designer DNA.  That work is already well underway in labs across the world with very little regulation (China and Middle East).
