NGD: After 18 years together, my childhood sweetheart bought me a guitar for the first time!

I think I have to point out with a title like that that my partner is VERY supportive of all my hobbies. She's facilitated multiple guitar purchases in the past, and whenever I've been on the edge about something, she's always given me a push if it's something I've really wanted. She's helped me buy effects, amps, PC parts, everything, but has never bought me a guitar outright...

Until today.

I'm a huge fan of bolt on necks, so that ruled out a hell of a lot of dual bucker geetars that would have otherwise piqued my interest. A good trem system is a must for anything that isn't a telecaster, and good tonal variety is absolutely of interest. Oh, and it has to be a looker - I've had a few great guitars that I've had to sell because I couldn't deal with the looks, as daft as that sounds.

She found me something that ticked all those boxes and then some... That middle split position? Good god.

I'm a lucky SOB. Some things are definitely making their way to the classifieds!

I'd never in good conscience be able to own a PRS if not for that thread reassuring me that they are now, in fact, kinda cool ;)  (Ignoring the SE Silver Sky)

Nice. You obviously have a knowledgeable partner too, my wife wouldn’t have a clue about buying a guitar… mine are known to her as the red one and the blue ones.

    Dear Mrs O

We've been together 30 years now.  Inspired by a fellow Fretboarder and encouraged by the fact you saved some wedge by purchasing a shitty phone charger for my 63rd last year, I thought I'd save you scratching your head about what to buy me for my 64th.  I'd like one of these please.  I've also attached a link at the bottom of the page for your convenience.  If you order it now, I may even stand a chance of getting it by the end of October.

    That is pretty!

And very lucky to have  such a great partner.

My wife paid for half of a 335 for my 40th. I thought about selling it once as I wasn't using it. She was fine with it but I couldn't bring myself to.(It was the right decision)

I hope you have many happy years together (and you and your partner too of course!)

I've definitely had a response.  It was positive, but only in the sense that it was unequivocal.

If that happened to me I'd be suspicious we were about to get a blue sofa and cushions.

I'm lucky enough that my wife is incredibly accommodating of my guitar habit, and will forever love that I came home from work one day to find the brilliant Epi Les Paul I'd played and couldn't afford at the weekend lying on our bed. As it happens, despite having "much better" guitars, it's the one next to the sofa today plugged into the noodling along to the telly amp.
