Lyon- just go there!!

For those who like a weekend break with rugby and are also foodies, Lyon is absolutely sensational as a city.

I simply cannot recommend it and its cuisine highly enough.

The old and new blend of architecture is wonderful but it’s the ‘bouchons’ that are the star attraction. There are only 12 and they are licensed to produce the traditional Lyonaisse cuisine to a monitored standard. The grub is delicious.

And the stadium is a wow too. And the rugby was obviously incredible!!

Dix sur dix.

I spent a whole day at that airport in the '90s...

    It still haunts me.

Airport is fantastic, but must be getting on for 25 years old now?

Andouillette is practically vegetarian isn't it?!  ;)

And yes, it is a great place to visit as long as you stay away from the dodgier areas. Like any major city there are some pretty sketchy places riddled with some horrendous violent, gun and gang- related crime, so you need to know where to avoid as well as where to visit!

@Gassage - looks like Lyon was an improvement on your RWC experiences.  I'll be honest - after our time in Marseille last autumn, I won't be watching international rugby in France again.  It was disgraceful.

I was there a couple of times last year. First on a works trip and then back to watch Wales thump Australia in the World cup.Its a great city . Great place if your looking for an alternative to Paris for a weekend away.

It was the '90s, and lots of substances were involved. I remember it being one of the longest days spent in an airport. They all look the same to me, though.

Lyon is the best damn city in France.

The people are friendly, the food is great (beyond the buchons), and it has everything you need for an excellent life.

(Bouchons aren't licenced, some are members of Les Bouchons Lyonnais, which is an association that certifies that its members reach certain standards. There are others around town just as good.)
