Clay bar on a guitar?

What's Hot
I know car products have been used to polish, get rid of swirls etc on guitars. But has anyone used a clay bar on a guitar to get rid of surface contaminants?
On paper it seems a logical thing to do given it wont damage a clearcoat on a car and great for removing stubborn tar spots and is the proper prep for a machine polish on a car and presumably a guitar as well?
I have a few contaminated spots on a les paul that i want to clean up and wont hand wipe off.. is the context ..Clay bar seems perfect having been a hobby car detailer for a couple of years in late 2000s.
TIA for any opinions.
Dont worry, be silly.

I don’t think I’d risk that on a nitro-finish, but it really depends on what your LP has. Is it a Gibson? It’ll almost certainly be nitro if so
