AND
if they are all possibilities ... which would offer a fair compromise between cost and tuning stability etc?
Many guitars have a re-sale value. Some you'll never want to sell.

I'm unclear though.
Which ones do you mean?
if I buy the sort of sets with a single screw fastening behind, can I fill those pairs of holes and not leave it too messy?
I have a paper template and have done some measuring against this pic
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee238/chaucer73/Squire Tele Black/teleguard06.jpg
All seems to fit this type but I can't quite decide if the control plate is 32mm or 35 mm ...
Help?
The pickguards I have seen advertised talk about US or Import sizes with a given measure along part of the pickguard of 100mm or 102.5mm.
And a cut out for 32mm or 35mm control plates.
Would a 32mm fit?
Would it need re-shaping somehow?
Would a 35mm be the better choice?
If you are trying to match all the screw holes in your body it is unlikely to be perfect but you may find you only need to plug and drill one or two.
If budget is a concern get the 35mm cutout guard and use the current plate.
Oh -oh
Drilling, cutting, filling. There's a disaster waiting to happen
lol
Are there different sizes in this regard?
Or is it back to the drawing board?
Should I just fill in the mini-holes with broken matchsticks & woodglue and get some tuners with the single screw hole ... those with a little off-shoot from the main housing?
