I’m always on the lookout for a backup les Paul custom and a Greco one has tipped up in the region.
It’s a canny drive so not on the doorstep so I wondered if anyone here has ever tried one ?
im trying to find out how close they are to my 1990 Gibson les Paul custom. The only other Japanese guitars I’ve had are Tokais and I find they all have a chubbier neck profile than Gibson’s regardless of the model.

I once owned a 1984 mint collection Greco LP custom and it was a superb guitar for the money. Those early 80s Grecos are amazing guitars. The build quality ia faultless.

    Cheers Mark

I have a Greco LP and a V, used to have a SG too. I think LP is a EG850. I’m away so can’t check.

The LP is genuinely amazing. As good as my Gibsons. The V is lower spec and is good but nothing special (although it was Butch Walker’s so it’s special to me).

I’ve never played a real 59, but the Greco feels old (I suppose at early 80s it is, but you know what I mean)

it has that tele on steroids thing which is my preferred LP sound.

I have a 76 Gibson LPC and there isn’t much difference really.

The LP is a full hand full. A touch bigger than my LPC.

I had a 1982 59-65, which was quite lovely (I've no experience with actual Gibsons, so couldn't tell you how it compared). I refuse to regret selling guitar, but if it magically reappeared in my living room I wouldn't be in the least bit unhappy, and wouldn't be selling it unless I really had to.

Thanks !!! Seen a burny too with original vh1 pickups but that’s twice as much as the Greco.

  • I had an ‘81 EGF 850 with Braz board. Unplugged and by feel, it had all the mojo. Really exciting guitar. Plugged in, it just sounded weak. I even changed the pickups and it wasn’t much different. I’ve played a few of the 1200s (both LP and 335 variants), and they were incredible. Well into historic money now, though. I stupidly didn’t buy one for £1800 around 5 years ago and have regretted it since.

Burny guitars were a store brand back in the day.
Originals are sort after collectables .
Lots of mass produced Chinese versions out there now so  Caveat Emptor ??

One of my friends has one of the modern Chinese ones. Feels like a catalogue guitar to me !

    I have a '70s Greco SA500.

My Burny Les Paul's are both MIJ but are 90's models. Love them.

Dunsy's videos cover quite a lot of MIJ guitars.

He also has some videos about buying online from Japan, if you were thinking of that.

(TBH, I usually go there for the SAHB videos).

I traded a 2013 [?] Gibson Firebird V for a 1990 Greco. I just thought it was a better guitar and had tons more mojo. I had both for a short while and the Greco played and sounded better.. I later found out that it’s not a neck-through. But it doesn’t bother me too much. Greco is the bottom one
