Michael was lead guitarist for Jakob Dylan's band The Wallflowers. He also played and recorded with John Hiatt (Perfectly Good Guitar era) and later joined Ben Harper. As a session guitarist he played on over 50 records and was also a tutor. 

He died 'unexpectedly' on April 2nd aged 57.

Oh man, that's sad. Perfectly Good Guitar is my fave Hiatt album and Ward's playing on it is fantastic.
