So sad to hear news of the passing of "Deadly" Derek Underwood, the greatest left-arm spinner we've ever produced. How many wickets would he have got with DRS?

"Caught Knott, bowled Underwood", four words that turned me into a cricket fan.

Ah that's sad - my old Dad was very keen on test cricket so Deadly's presence was familar in my teenage years.  Knotty is the same age but thankfully still with us.

    RIP.

"The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey", were the words that hooked me into cricket. However, I've never watched it since.
Actually he never said it, but it's a great story.

Three bloody loud cheers for the late, great Brian Johnston, for never actually saying it but making us all wish he had!

My 1st test match to watch was Eng v Aus in 1972 at Headingley - Underwood took 4 for 37 on day 1 - To see Derek and Lillie both bowl on day 1 was awesome - Wish I could remember more of it

IMO our finest ever spinner - RIP Deadly

The term 'Legend' is bandied about all too frequently, but Derek 'Deadly' Underwood can definitely be described as such.
    RIP.

An all-time great, from an era "before the world turned lax and sour."

Played against him a few times.

Memorably in the international t20 at La Manga in 04 where David Banks (Worcestershire batter) hit him for the second biggest six I have ever seen (Gooch off Hirwani 1990 at Lords was the biggest- absolutely massive).

    He was an absolute charmer.
