Managed to strip the allen head of the truss rod on my Faith Saturn. angry

Anyone know what size replacement nut I need? I've emailed Faith but thought I'd check if anyone knows on here.

Cheers
Ronnie

Is it a double action truss rod? If so the nut isn't removable.

Depends on quite how badly stripped it is!

Not really, the nut on a dual action rod is captive. The only solution would be to replace the entire rod.

Sometimes it's possible to adjust a rod with a damaged nut by using a new, unworn Allen key pushed right down inside to the bottom of the socket.

Reply from Faith, they can sell me a new truss rod for £10 + delivery.
However, “We do not believe you can remove the nut/tip but you are more than welcome to try if you purchase it.”
    :(

Initial thought is to fit a cut down allen key into the rounded hole with some epoxy so it can then be adjusted with a small socket. There should be enough space in the cavity if I keep the length to a minimum and would still be able to refit the truss rod cover.

I can’t afford to have a new truss rod fitted.

You might be able to run a tap (from a tap and die set) in which will allow you to turn clockwise, or a screw/bolt extractor to turn anti-clockwise.

    Wtf...

There are tools for unscrewing stripped nuts, but does it come off??!

That’s it, if I knew it come out, I’d be halfway to fixing it.

I've just checked the rod on the remains of a Faith Saturn I have here and it it has a double action rod.

The moveable part seems to be enclosed in an outer cover so you'd have to be careful how you used any epoxy or similar as you may gum everything up and have no chance of doing anything more with it.

    It looks something like this:

So the outer piece is fixed and the allen key goes into the bit inside.

    That’s handy to know @Paul_C ;
If it’s not too much trouble, would you mind taking some photos that might help show what you mean? Can pm an email address to you if it saves dicking about with image hosting etc. No worries if not though.

Have you tried using a torx key, they fit inside hex heads, the teeth might just bite into the remains of it enough to turn

Sorry didn’t see the pics when I replied earlier.
I assumed the outer barrel was part of the “nut”   Are you saying that part doesn’t turn and is more of a sleeve?

    I feel very stupid!
I’ve just had a closer look and I think I might’ve gotten away with it.
I wrongly assumed it was all one piece and thought something was wrong when I couldn’t see the outer part moving.
Combined with using a worn allen key lead me up the completely wrong path!
So I got the guitar out, along with a brand new allen key and checked again. I think we’re all good. :)
