I have a dream of a world where chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned.

Actually, the real reason it crossed the road was because it twisted its hock on the badly potholed pavement that has fallen into total disrepair due to lack of council budgets / mis-spending / bad planning and thought it could mitigate the risk factors by going to the pavement opposite that appeared to be in better condition due to the fact that a local councillor's grandmother lives on that side.

It is more probable, however, that chickens simply lack sufficient cognitive skills to actually make conscious decisions and it just ended up on the other side by pure chance.
