The first single from David Gilmour 'Luck and Strange', released 6th September 2024.

Pretty decent tune.. And his Goldtop is lovely

Yeah wasn't expecting that kind of raw gnarly solo either. Never been a huge PF fan really but enjoy Gilmour's stuff. All credit to him for turning out fresh music at his age.

It was better than I was expecting. On an island was quite good - rattle that lock was utter garbage.

Is just wish he’d collaborate with other songwriters than his wife

nice to see Guy Pratt there as well as old Gadd who looks like an Arab king of old

Song is ok, but the solo is terrible.

Honestly I found that almost unlistenable.  There's no shame in just retiring.

No hooks and a bit plodding. If it wasn't Gilmour noone would give it the time of day.

Impeccable guitar sounds as usual though.

I like it, come on it's new stuff from DG what's not to like! Have to agree on the collaborating with other songwriters comment but otherwise very enjoyable to my ears.

The solo sounds like something he could work with live to make it properly interesting.

    Lyrics? Meh.

Structurally the whole thing reminded me of Fat Old Sun.
Old, overweight and badly maintained. Unlike my amps which are just old and overweight.

It is remarkably dull (if that's not a contradiction in terms). I would probably have enjoyed it a little more if I hadn't watched the cringey video accompanying it.

I think we shouldnt be too critical since he is 78!    Like Knopfler just glad they are still making music!

So- after finally watching the video- it’s like an episode of The Apprentice set to music with DG playing SurAlllaaan.

I was waiting for something to happen in the song but nothing did. And the guitar solo is mainly drivel that goes nowhere.

DG should simply enjoy using his bus pass.

Meh, don't love it. Beginning sounds like a Sting late-period solo career throwaway.

Having listened to the track several times in the past few days, on headphones and through our stereo system, I have changed my mind about this song. On my iPhone it sounds ordinary but through a fairly decent replay system, details emerge that are hidden on the iPhone. Details that show exceptional musical oneness in the studio. Worth listening to if only to hear how the bass and drums are so tight and working as one unit.
I am glad I listened to the track again. And again.

Abysmal. Very painful, a bit like watching Andy Murray the last couple of years.

Well I'm going to (partially) buck the trend here.  I really l liked it... right up until the point at which the guitar solo started.  Not only did it feel superfluous to requirements but it appeared to belong to a completely different song.
