How to block individual websites on Windows 10?

There's a certain online game I really need to stop myself from playing. I'm wasting hours per day on it.

I tried altering the 'hosts' file as it suggests on google, but it's just a blank file on my computer? I can't access my ISP settings, someone else has the password, and they don't know what it is.

Any help appreciated.

There are browser extensions that will do it.

The hosts file is blank because normally you don't need anything in it.

Just put 127.0.0.1 in it and the URL of the site you're trying to stop going to and that will sort you.

Can you blacklist it in your wifi router settings… then you won’t be tempted to access it on another device.

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    0.0.0.0 www.thefretboard.co.uk

    That'll sort it.

OK thanks. I've got this to work for normal websites with www. in the URL but the game website I want to block is still loading. The URL is just 'slither.io'

So your hosts file would look like

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    0.0.0.0 www.thefretboard.co.uk
    0.0.0.0 slither.io

I tested here and can no longer reach it as expected.

Noooooooo. DO NOT PLAY IT! Very addictive.

The block works on firefox now, maybe just needed a reset, but still not working on chrome. Maybe if I uninstall the 'NTL mod' it will work.
