Pedal train users - do you put the Velcro right to the edges ?

I’ve bought myself a pedal train board.
I was going to put the velcro on but I’ve noticed on the instruction video they leave a gap on each side , instead of sticking it right to the end of the rail. 

Seems odd to me .
so is that the thing to do ? Or just stick it so it’s all the way to the edge ?!

If you don’t stick it all the way to the edge, you’ll potentially lose some real estate as you won’t get the pedals right up to the edge of the board.
