It is hard to be objective after all these years though, and I distinctly remember wondering whether it was some kind of parody when I first heard him sing, given the popularity of Mavis Riley at the time.
first time i ever heard him i was on acid and someone played me Cortez, totally blew my mind :-)
lucky enough to see him with the Crazy Horse in Glasgow around 2013 and the tone and power on Powderfinger was just fucking epic
