    Shitshitshit. So bloody young.

There goes my dream of getting my debut LP produced / engineered by him.

    In all seriousness, RIP fella.
Ten years too late and still getting it wrong

The dude. Worked with the pixies, the breeders and nirvana. Pretty much owned the 90s for me.

I'm tempted to start a thread over in music section dedicated to the music of Steve Albini, but probably just as well to do it here.

My brother had both the Big Black albums. They, along with Husker Du, were hugely influential for me. Up until then, I couldn't see past UK post punk.

Big Black sounded like nothing I'd heard before and opened up a whole new world of music. Albini's music has pretty much been a constant since then - all my adult life.

Oh shit that’s a genuine shock. One of the most important producers to ever work a fader, and gone far too young

He was one though, whether he liked it or not.

He's welcome to haunt me if he has a problem :D

A long time ago a friend of mine got Creative Scotland funding to record and release an album. The vultures started circling quickly, including someone from a rather well known Scottish indie band who wanted to produce them.

I told them all they needed to do was to take the money to Electrical, it’ll cost less and Albini will record exactly what appealed to their audience and won’t take the piss.

They didn’t, but ten years later when they crowd funded for a release they actually did end up recording with Albini.

Big RIP, So many of my top 100 albums had his magic touch and I remember a Gedge interview saying that Seasmonsters would have been a mash of disconnected songs had it not been for Albini.

Very sad to hear this. Albini was an absolute master of his craft and responsible for recording some of the best records of all time.

    Absolutely gutted.

He had integrity and didn't give two fucks about the 'industry'.
One of my favourite things though was his review of the Shure SM57 microphone.

Yes indeed - his ability with the written word was exceptional and had a lot of dry humour. I believe he studied journalism, although not sure if he was ever active commercially.

I have never forgotten his descriptive term for the major labels (particularly as I work for one) - "the big high building" - unique description.

RIP - life is too short (I keep saying that).
