I've not listened to the album itself yet but found this on iPlayer last night while the better half was watching some drivel on Netflix. Really beautiful sounds, interesting songs and a lovely (to me) expression of reflection, melancholy, and the kind of conversations I'm prone to having with myself in my head when I feel low. Hit me like a freight train as I wasn't expecting something so beautiful, I've not listened to him or Stereophonics for years but was a big fan as a 6th former. Sounds like he's really matured well as a songwriter and his voice is absolutely on point for this kind of thing.
The last Stereophonics album I heard was the one with Dakota on it, and the only solo stuff I've heard of his was something around the same time which i recall as sounding like a bunch of demos and didn't enjoy it very much. This however, is a beautiful sound all of its own and I was really pleasantly surprised to hear it. Lovely thick broody piano with atmospheric strings on top really works.
Thought I'd share in case anybody else liked that sort of thing

This is definitely something different though and really glad I chanced upon it - thank goodness for crap American "feel good" dramas that the Better Half likes to watch.
There's a sort of documentary accompanying the concert which I thought would be interesting but was a bit dull, however it did set the melancholic vibe for the concert quite well

I only have Performance and Cocktails but still listen to it fair bit. It's got some great songs on it.
Will have a butchers at this. Ta.
I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to
I'm going to say it... great fucking band.
One of the classic debuts.
Second and Third albums were EVERYWHERE for a while, and produced several radio staples.
Then they have kept plugging away, despite tragedy and time.
Each of their albums has two or three great songs on it - they are really a lot like a British Foo Fighters in their reliability (you will probably like their new single) and general enjoyability (can you have a bad gig with Local Boy, Traffic, Pick a Part, Dakota etc in your library?)
