    That's carbon shielding paint. It's usually crap... but that doesn't explain why doing it properly didn't improve it!
    I don't understand why either. Iron Gear pups higher output that the stock Infinity suppose. Only other explanation is I've created a ground loop but I'm not sure what that's about.

    Lowering my expectations has succeeded beyond my wildest dreams.

  • Graphite shielding paint on the other hand, is really good. Used it many many times, and works perfectly. I suppose there needs to be an adequate concentration of graphite. I got mine from here:

    Fender Telecaster Deluxe and Deluxe American Telecaster have noise-cancelling pickups with screened output cables. Conductive paint or foil would only help around the controls and output jack.
    A little clarity, if it matters.  I also swapped out the WRHBs for custom p90s.  I did the copper shielding in the process, which included a custom shielded pickguard.

    The guitar was a gift, a keeper for life.  But those humbuckers were muddy as hell.

    Try this @Philly_Q ;
    ...it'll tell you exactly how your tele will sound if properly shielded.

    Kind regards

    FWIW,  I fully shielded my Ritchie Kotzen Tele with copper foil after relating the rather budget Japanese selector switch with a high-end switch.

    It made a significant difference to the hum levels.

    Why do they use those shitty switches (and pots) on otherwise high-end guitars?  But that's a whole different thread.

    Absolutely !   Otherwise an amazing guitar , with crappy controls.  Had to be changed.  Like you say - a whole other thread.
