Cornford Roadhouse - opinions?

Been looking at getting a backup amp and these have been on my radar for a while, particularly the 50w combos... anyone owned or tried one?  I'm after something with loud enough cleans to gig with that takes pedals well... these seem to go around the £350 - 400 mark which is pretty much bang on budget for me

I had the 30w combo and I found it very versatile for the blues/rock genre. Previously I used marshalls and the roadhouse was the natural progression really. I've gone fender tweed now so don't own one now but I had a few cornfords i.e. Hurricane, Hellcat and the Roadhouse and loved them all especially that Hellcat but it was sooo heavy I had to sell it. The only thing I am reserved about Cornfords is their customer service or lack of one

The Roadhouse series are still great amps. I had a 30w combo too and it was plenty loud enough for any gig. I only sold it because I've switched to using heads.

The tones are as good as the hand wired Cornfords I own.

The custom service will be non existant now!

I have the 30, traded for on here.  Brilliant amp.  Loud and very versatile.   Construction is superb and in the hopefully unlikely event that something goes wrong the quality of the board and layout means it should be easy to fix.  It is however very heavy, the cab is bigger and heavier than my Fender Twin.  Definitely recommended, although you might want to swap out the V30s as they possibly aren't the best suited speakers for it.

All of the above BUT also I cannot get over how the recent addition of the EHX East River Drive and my LP gives me all those classic Marshall tones I ached for years!

I run my 30 combo into an additional V30 1x12 so is a 2x12 config and the spread of sound is glorious 

It doesn't do Fendery cleans (its clean is a little dark) but my EL34 model will do some grindy VOX

Ah yes that image brings back memories of mine. I had a cover just like it for it too. Still feeling the weight of it though

I had the 30w head - lovely amp.

I especially liked the footswitchable boost. Love that feature on amps

I had the 30W 1x12. Compared to other amps in the price range, it's the only one where I've been happy with the cleans AND distorted sounds. One or the other always seems to suffer in most amps of similar. As mentioned above, it's a heavy beast but it's a really good amp.

Good call.  There is a lot of nonsense talked about them being made in the Far East and not being a 'proper' Cornford because they are PCB.  For their current values the sound and build quality are very hard to beat.  Good luck and if you get one tell us what you think.
