Studio cable management/rack ??

So another question... any HAWT tips on cable management? We've got a huge board with hooks on it for cables, but it's huge and heavy and will probably pull the wall down. Ideally we want something light to put up on the wall, or something free standing.

I find the age old technique of using L shaped shelf brackets securely fitted to the wall does the trick. We recently put some up in our storeroom at one of the venues I work and nicely finished it off with some tape and a Sharpie that says useful things like "Speakon", "Long XLR", "Medium XLR" etc. Nice and tidy and will only cost you a tenner or two from the hardware store. I'm sure someone will gladly take your money for a more fancy solution but cant see it being any more effective!

The other thing you need is an endless supply of cable ties and a cable label maker.

Plastic wall mounted binnacles used to work well for me and even the floor standing ones if there is space.

One local place used lightweight workshop dexian type shelving which was good but took up a lot of real estate.

Space or slat wall with the appropriate fixings for cables etc, not cheap if bouhgt new but check shop crap classifieds for a decent cheap bargain.

For cable tidying I love these over cable ties or PVC tape.

For labelling I use one of the Brother label machines and they can be had for about £15 on eBay and various other places. Different colours of the label tape help for quick recognition of cable type or whatever system of colour coding works best for you.

Strip of wood, 2''x1'', drill 8mm holes every 10'' (slightly angled upwards) and stick a length of 8mm dowel in (6'' will hold 3-4 long cables). You can glue the dowels for extra strength. Works a treat and cheap as strips of deep fried potato!

Not matter HOW heavy the device for hanging the cable is the cable weight will soon exceed it by at least an order so it is THAT which will cause a falling down!

You can get releasable cable ties and RockBottom type shops sell very very cheap metal hooks in bubble packs.
