What Fuels Or Inspires You To Write At What You Feel Is Your Best?

Writing for yourself doesn't have to mean not sounding like someone else, or I suppose more accurately having detectable influences from your favorite artists.

Take an example, I love Tool but they only release an album once every thousand years or so. If I want to hear more stuff like that I can go looking for other people with that influence and a similar sound, but turns out there aren;t that many. Or I can write it myself. And in a way that is almost the purest form of writing for myself.
