Whole lotta love - technique ?

Can anyone tell me how to get that scraping rake sound after the riff around 38 & 40 secs into song. Is it scraping the pick along the 6th string windings? ....sounds a lot heavier & multi-toned.

I made a Karaoke track for this last year and I did it with a slide, then set the track to pan from left to right. Closest I could get to it.
