I've found adjusting pole piece height does actually make a difference sometimes, but only a very, very small one.

I guess this is why tonehounds don't tend to like EMGs much?

I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

Well, I make sure that my gear only ever runs on E.ON brand electricity, I tried Npower but it didn't have the creaminess that I get with E.ON.
You mean you play without power?

I know of an acoustic player,an Aussie,he's got a fairly beat-up old Maton with a worn top and very little to adjust and another old American fella called him a certified guitar player ...............he's got a great tone gadget .....called fingers.......apparently they get better with a lot of practice and work in conjunction with a musical brain and theoretical knowledge ( its a great rig )
Gotta get me some of that !
That's all well and good, but they've stopped making them.

I have  an ear specialist on hand to test my audience members are  tone receptive as they pass through the door .it saves chucking them out as I play .

When are people going to understand the importance of air in the tone equation.

Bypass, schmypass. Who care about pickups, wiring, wood and all of that?

You clearly need to control the air through which the sound is being transmitted, if it's the wrong kind of air then your tone will suffer.

Does that mean if you far in front of ya cab you get a lighter sound from the warm air?

I have heard stories of Jaco Pastorius stopping mid-gig and adjusting his truss rod. He was a bit mad, though.
Given the amount of drinking & smack he did, Im suprised he could even see his bass

To be fair, if you are playing fretless bass, truss rod adjustment is everything.

Its the difference between playing fretless to sound like jaco, or playing fretless because frets are are a waste of metal
